Toll wins exclusive ADF freight services contract

The Toll Group is to replace the Australian Defence Force Linehaul Service (ADFLHS) as the sole provider of freight distribution services for the Australian Defence Forces (excluding air freight).

Under an agreement signed with the Defence Materiel Organisation, Toll will take over the ADFLHS task until a decision is made on the Defence Integrated Distribution System (DIDS) contract.

The task represents the distribution segment of the DIDS contract, which is currently being considered by the Federal Government. The ADFLHS was wound up in November after more than 30 years.

Toll’s Managing Director, Mr Paul Little, said he welcomed this opportunity to demonstrate Toll’s capabilities to meet the ADF’s distribution needs.

“The ADF need a value-for-money nationwide distribution capability, and this is one of Toll’s strengths.

“We are also very strong in regional areas, where many of the ADF facilities are based.

“Toll will leverage these capabilities to provide excellent customer service locally and an effective, efficient system nationally”, Mr Little said.

The contract provides for 14 B-double runs and one single trailer run a week from Albury, Liverpool and Townsville to various ADF sites around the country.

With Tenix Limited, Toll is joint owner of the Albury-based TollTenix Defence Logistics, which is bidding for the $1.3 billion DIDS contract to provide warehousing, distribution and maintenance services to the ADF over the next 10 years.

A decision on the DIDs contract is expected before Christmas.
